About the data

Where every number, level, stress mark and meaning on this site comes from, and the licenses each carries.

This site is the public face of an open research project, the Ukrainian Frequency study. Nothing here is invented: every page is compiled from published, cited datasets, and the guides read their numbers from the same files.

Which words get a page

A word gets a page only when it has both a validated level and at least one dictionary meaning. That rules out thin pages and predicted levels. Today that is the top 3,000 such words by frequency (3,120 entries, since a few spellings are two different words).

Download it, cite it, build on it

  • Anki decks: one learner deck per level, stressed word to meaning, on Decks.
  • Downloads: the full list as CSV, JSON and an Anki deck seed, with checksums, at jakelawrence.xyz. Every part of the study is mapped on The research.
  • Python: pip install ukvocab installs the published data as tables.
  • API: a hosted lemmatizer turns any inflected form into its headword: contract and OpenAPI.
  • Cite: Lawrence, J. (2026). Ukrainian Frequency: a lemma-based, coverage-graded open frequency list (v0.2.0). jakelawrence.xyz/research/ukrainian-frequency. Derived from UberText 2.0 (Chaplynskyi, 2023). Concept DOI: 10.5281/zenodo.22823134. Stress column: 10.5281/zenodo.23092388.
